12:4 – Read Jasher 12:1-13:5

Summary:

  1. Abram is imprisoned by the king (Nimrod) for opposing idolatry
  2. Royal council decrees death by burning for despising the gods
  3. Abram and his brother Haran are cast into a fiery furnace
  4. God miraculously delivers Abram; he is unharmed in the fire
  5. Haran dies because his heart was not fully with God
  6. Many witnesses see the miracle; the king is astonished
  7. Abram testifies that God alone saved him; people honor God
  8. Abram is given gifts, servants (including Eliezer), and followers (~300 men)
  9. Abram returns home and begins turning people to serve God
  10. Nimrod later dreams of Abram’s future power and threat
  11. Wise men interpret the dream: Abram’s descendants will overthrow kingdoms
  12. Nimrod secretly plans to kill Abram
  13. Eliezer warns Abram; he flees and hides with Noah and Shem
  14. Abram urges Terah to leave and abandon vain pursuits
  15. Terah agrees; family departs Ur toward Canaan, settles temporarily in Haran
  16. Abram gains followers in Haran and teaches God’s ways
  17. God appears to Abram, promises blessing, protection, and multiplication
  18. Abram obeys and journeys toward the land of Canaan
