26:1 – The famine was necessary for future events to happen (much like in the future with Joseph)

Well Theme

  • Meeting a woman at the well

Staff theme -The Hebrew suggests something more ceremonial/symbolic than literal shovel-work.

A tribal leader’s staff/rod represented:

  • authority
  • governance
  • inheritance
  • shepherding
  • judgment

  • Messiah to meet his bride by a ‘well’ again?
    • Genesis 24:10–27 – Abraham’s servant meets Rebekah at a well; hospitality reveals she is chosen for Isaac.
    • Genesis 29:1–14 – Jacob meets Rachel at a well while she waters sheep; beginning of their relationship.
    • Exodus 2:15–21 – Moses meets Zipporah and her sisters at a well after defending them from shepherds.
    • 1 Samuel 9:11–13 – Saul meets young women going out to draw water while searching for Samuel.
    • John 4:4–30 – Yahusha/Jesus speaks with the Samaritan woman at Jacob’s well about “living water.”
    • Song of Solomon 4:12–15 – Symbolic imagery comparing the bride to a sealed fountain and well of living waters.

26:22 – Humble move

26:23 – We all have our trials, large or small.

  • Abimelech first dealt well with Isaac, then cast him out for his abundant blessing!
    • How much more for us in these last days who have been blessed abundantly with understanding in his Torah and the true messiah!! (Pro 3, Matt 10, John 15 etc..)

26:25-29 – Coincidence that after seeking Yahuah, he changed the hearts of Abimelech and his crew?

26:30 – Notice Isaac didn’t contend with them but agreed to reunite with them.  Merciful, like David, quick to forgive Col 3:13

27:1 – Eyes were dim – compare to moses – Deut 34:7

27:35 – Is deception ok? (Consider the venison that blinded Isaacs eyes was the center of this ‘deception’) – See Gen 25:28

  • Remember, this is the will of YHWH – Gen 25:28
    • Gen 12, Gen 26, Prayer of Manasseh & Others (Preserving life)
    • Yah is the judge and can grant leniency based off the scenario (think of court, or if an officer pulls you over etc…)

    • Lying is not good – don’t get it twisted! – Exo 20 & Sirach 7

    • Deceiver was deceived later
      • Jacob may not have sinned, but actions may reap consequences
      • Goat with father (deception)
      • Goat blood on Joseph’s coat (deception)
        • Esau’s clothes / Joseph’s clothes
        • Eye for an eye?
      • Laban switched Lea for Rachel later
